b. Three distinct techniques are used for navigation
mode startup under varying conditions. These are Sta-
tionary, Airborne (with/without GPS) and Moving Platform
(Sea, with/without GPS) alignments.
1. Stationary Start. This method assumes a normal
aircraft startup while the aircraft is parked and
the LAND mode is used. EGI alignment is auto-
matic. HARS mode switch is placed to NORM.
This method is not dependent upon GPS avail-
ability, although GPS availability does improve
INU alignment time and heading accuracy. This
is the most often used startup method.
