11.179. FEEL SPRING CARTRIDGE DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY (AVIM) – continued
11.179.6. Assembly
NOTE
Install washers (8.1) only on directional
feel spring cartridge, PN 7-311518009-7.
a. Install two cups (8), four washers (8.1) ( if re-
quired), and spring (9) on rod (10).
(1) Install cup (8), two washers (8.1) (if required),
spring (9), two washers (8.1) (if required), and
cup (8) on rod (10).
(2) Install stop (13) on end of rod (10) until stop
(13) contacts cup (8).
(3) Adjust spring (9) to sit securely in cups (8).
(4) Tighten stop (13) until dimension from the
back of both cups (8) is 4.725 INCH.
(5) Install lock (12).
(6) Install nut (11) finger tight.
b. Perform spring assembly (7) functional check.
(1) Temporarily install rod end (2).
(2) Tighten nut (3) finger tight.
NOTE
Cup surface must be equally supported
on both sides of rod.
(3) Position cap (8) against vise jaws with rod
end (2) between jaws.
(a) Do not tighten vise on rod end (2).
(4) Attach scale to rod end (2).
(5) Apply tension to rod end to deflect assembly
(7) 0.010 to 0.030 INCH. Use scale.
(a) Note indication on scale.
(6) Increase tension to deflect assembly (7)
0.990 to 1.010 INCH. Use scale.
(a) Note indication on scale.
(7) Release tension on assembly (7) and
compare indications to Table 1 for the ap-
propriate feel spring cartridge.
